Doug makes music in his ever expanding home studio, filled with synthesisers, effects pedals and microphones, many hand built or modified by himself. Ears wide open and both feet firmly in the leftfield, Doug loves working with other artists to explore the possibilities of their music in its recorded form.

A decent chunk of 2022 was spent working with the remarkable Samantha Lindo to create her debut album ‘Ancestry’ - exploring ancestral messages across time: looking back, being present and looking forward all at once…
Doug was involved in the production right from the bare bones of the tunes - a brilliant way of working as most of the important decisions about how a song is going to sound often get made well before you record anything: the feel, the tempo, the arrangement, the instrumentation, the hooks, the swells, the shape and the narrative. Doug brought the songs alive with string and horns arrangements, layers of BVs and guitars, and a delicate production that nods to the past and future whilst keeping Samantha at the centre of it all. Everything was tracked and mixed at Doug’s home studio. Full album released in November 2023 on vinyl.

Keen to explore some sonic possibilities beyond their current piano/vocal incarnations, Hannah and Doug began working on her music. After some initial success, Doug reworked and arranged the tunes into new alt-folk imaginings, leaving the piano/vocal core in place but surrounding them in an ethereal world of synthesisers, tape samples and found sound. Mastered at Optimum, the work now comprises her 4 track EP ‘Hotel Elevators’.

In a perfect world, no song would be complete without a roaring sax solo… Sadly, Doug lives in reality, but with penchant for pop sax and a studio ready to go recording remote horns has become an enjoyable addition to his work.
